The Escapist and the Ecomnomist on Video Game Alarmism
I’ve held off posting about the recent poroblems with Grand Theft Auto and video game cencorship but a couple of articles caught my eye today so I thought I’d mention them.

“Modern” cases of entire generations unnecessarily fixating on harmless fun go back to the Prohibition Era. By claiming its negative effects were detrimental to society, members of a group called the Temperance Movement were able to bully politicians into nationally banning ...
Age of Empires III
A favorite LAN game in the office is the Age of Empires series. The new version is looking stunning.
How to use and abuse the gaming press
An interesting article by an English journalist about how to get decent press with indie video games. The article focuses on Uplink and Darwinia but makes a few interesting comments about journalism in general.
The games press is often painted as corrupt, lazy and – as I mentioned – fundamentally stupid. This is because we tend to be corrupt, lazy and fundamentally stupid.
I’ll have to re read it when I make my next game (which will hopefully be ...
Zelda Twilight Princess delayed – new screenshots
Aaarrgghhhh – The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess has been delayed…
However I will manage, I appreciate that good things come to those who wait, but in this case I am very eager to get playing. Especially since I have seen some new screen shots, in particular these gorgeous town scenes with loads of people, and this scene of Link as a wolf in the snow. Come on Nintendo, I know you won’t disappoint me, but I ...
The Free Sound Project
Over at the Free Sound Project they are collecting royalty free sound samples using the Creative Commons license. There are massive amounts of sounds on there and since I don’t have any problem whatsoever with crediting people I suspect I won’t be ...
The Da Vinci Code film
Hmmm – Cinematical reports that The Da Vinci Code movie is being changed to please Christians – [via]
I rather like the Dan Browns books. Yes they’re shallow and not the most intellectual stories in the world. But they are fun, and pass the time nicely when you take the train to and from work every day.
The film was sounding like it could be quite good with an all star cast and a decent(ish) director. I particularly liked ...
Papercraft – Advance Wars edition
I always look at these things and think they’re cool and I should make one, and then promptly forget about them. I’m going to write this entry to remind me to try because these are very cool, in a slightly geeky way

Miniclip Game Development Competition
Not to be outdone by the BBC and Channel 4, Miniclip has today announced that we are going to run a Flash game development competition.
We’ve been thinking about doing something like this for a while now, and are really excited to see the types of games that people are going to come up with. I’m bound to be biased but ...
