The Da Vinci Code film

August 12, 2005 | Links

Hmmm - Cinematical reports that The Da Vinci Code movie is being changed to please Christians - [via]

I rather like the Dan Browns books. Yes they’re shallow and not the most intellectual stories in the world. But they are fun, and pass the time nicely when you take the train to and from work every day.

The film was sounding like it could be quite good with an all star cast and a decent(ish) director. I particularly liked the choice of Paul Bettany as Silas.

Anyway - the whole point of the book is about the history of the church and, in particular, Jesus; so changing the story to please Christians will remove well… the story! It’s going to be interesting to see how they get around this one.

The da vinci code was written to be a movie ! …which is why it was such a rubbish book :)

Did you delete my gay Catholic messages to please the Christians? You’re as bad as the hollywood censors!

I think it’s fair to say if Mr Brown is allowed to badly rewrite history, hollywood can rewrite his story… and throw away any hope of making a decent movie by casting tom hanks.

Just out of interest have you actually read the book - the ENTIRE book - or did you do what you done with Harry Potter and give up after the first page?

Yes I did read it, and concluded that its a book for girls. I never intended to read the Potter annual, as it’s a childrens book about wizards.

At least your opinion is based on something this time.

So what sort of book (of the story variety) would you recommend over Harry Potter and the Da Vinci code?

The book is complete and utter drivel, badly written and designed for the hard of thinking. If you can believe this twaddle, their once was a detective who lived at Baker Street and Harry Potter knows the secrets of the universe.

I suppose with all the litigation with Baigent and Leigh, someone os bound to sue someone else for plagarism

    :)

I enjoyed the book but that doesn’t make it true. There are lots of works of fiction that are grounded in reality but contain little fact and this is another of them.

As for ‘designed for the hard of thinking’ I like to think it was designed for those of who just want somehting to pass the time on the way to work. Something that’s easy to pick up and read and not too deep.

I loved the book, but I really don’t see why so many people are up in arms about it, its just a story. I enjoyed the film too, but I think they should’ve put more time into Silas, as he was easily the best thing about the book
