More Nintendo Revolution controller information
September 18, 2005 | Video Games
There has been a lot of talk about video gaming since my post about the Nintendo Revolution controller. Kotaku has a pretty good round up of all the articles that are spread around the net.
The most interesting thing though, is that apparently the new controller will have some sort of cradle. I was under the impression that the expansion port at the bottom would just be for extras such as the analogue stick already shown, but now people are doing mock-ups of how the cradle will look - making the cradle the more traditional controller I mentioned previously. If they were to do something like this there is no way the Revolution will fail, standard games can be played as normal (EA will be happy) AND you will get the ‘revolutionary’ content from Nintendo.
I’m pretty sure the cradle will look nothing like this, partly because of the styling of the Revolution and partly because it looks like the wand would fall out of the cradle if you tipped it too far. I would guess that if it’s going to be used as a controller as well as a cradle (battery charger?) then it would make use of the wand rather than just ignoring it entirely.
By far the best, most creative, games on the GameCube, and DS (and every other Nintendo console) are produced by Nintendo themselves so it will be interesting to see what they can come up with. Whatever happens, next year is going to be very interesting for gaming.
If you’re interested 4colorrebellion have been keeping track of all of the Revolution controller mock-ups that have been around since the console was announced. It’s interesting to see how close (and far off) people were.
