For a site that's called Coding 4 Fun this site couldn't be less enjoyable.
Microsoft are trying to get people to start programming at an earlier age, which I think is a great idea, but making the site this dry and academic looking just sucks all the fun out of the subject. The topics they are talking about, game developement, image editing, even iTunes addons, are perfect subject matter for getting people interested. They're even offering a free beta of Visual Studio Express which I'm guessing is a lite version of Visual Studio, Microsofts flagship development application.
I think I'll give Visual Studio Express a go, I haven't used a Microsoft programming language since I studied Visual Basic at school about 8 years ago, it'll be interesting to see how things have changed.

If there is anything more annoying than replacing numbers with real words, then I will kill myself.
ahhh - text speak.
That annoys me no end as well. I think they're trying to be 'cool', you know, to appeal to the teens who haven't yet learnt how to write complete sentences.
All power to Microsoft for there new approach to developers. Giving out free tools, and providing help for ordinary people to have a go themselves is a smart and welcome move.
P.S. The express versions of VS are not betas, there totally free versions of there software, available for all flavours of VS and SQL server 2005. The environments are greatly reduced, but fully functional.
It was a beta when I posted about it last year
Looks like it's moved up in the world.
