Wordpress.com invites sent

October 7, 2005 | Links

After a bit of hassle I finally managed to get rid of my wordpress.com invite. Through an act of pure genius I actually managed to get most of the people who entered a blog of their own.

I did get one other person an invite but they gave it to a friend so I don’t know what happened to it. The thing is I ended up with yet another invite so caved in and set up my own wp.com blog. Which means I have another invite to give away… no competition this time though - I’m going to find someone I think deserves it and send it to them.

Worst Game Development Competition - Ever!

October 5, 2005 | Video Games

Wow - what a sack of crap.

There have been a number of game development competitions recently but this new one from Studica has to be the worst ever. First Prize is $500, 2nd $200, and 3rd place nets you $100. Not much of a prize when you consider how long a decent game takes to make but that’s not the worst of it. The really bad thing is that you have to buy Virtools before you can even enter… and the basic student (non commercial) Virtools license is $499, so if you win, you’ll be a grand total of $1 better off… that’s assumiung you work for free… and steal all the software and hardware you need… and get free electricity.

If you’re a bit strapped for cash you can buy the ‘full unlimited version’ for $50. The only catch is it which will stop working after …

Dev Diary : Game Design

October 2, 2005 | Dev Diary #1

Before working out what sort of game to make I need to find out what is in a design document. These are new to me so a quick Google threw up a handful of sites. The most likely was found at ihsoft which has a number of articles on game design and development. I downloaded the design document template (which can be found at the top of the page) and had a read. The document itself was pretty straight forward, if rather (incredibly) long. The ‘blank’ template is 22 pages long which but since I’m going to be using it as a roadmap for the game design rather than it’s original purpose of selling the game to a publisher I was able able to chop it down to 13 pages with little effort.

If you want to see what I’m working from you can download my new template …
