Worst Game Development Competition - Ever!
October 5, 2005 | Video Games
Wow - what a sack of crap.
There have been a number of game development competitions recently but this new one from Studica has to be the worst ever. First Prize is $500, 2nd $200, and 3rd place nets you $100. Not much of a prize when you consider how long a decent game takes to make but that’s not the worst of it. The really bad thing is that you have to buy Virtools before you can even enter… and the basic student (non commercial) Virtools license is $499, so if you win, you’ll be a grand total of $1 better off… that’s assumiung you work for free… and steal all the software and hardware you need… and get free electricity.
If you’re a bit strapped for cash you can buy the ‘full unlimited version’ for $50. The only catch is it which will stop working after 3 months. That’s right - they’re selling the demo!
If all that wasn’t bad enough - look at rule number 7 in the Rules and Regulations.
7. All Competition Files submitted to Studica.com/Skills Competitions will become the sole property of Studica.com and Studica.com will have unrestricted rights regarding any and all future use of these files. These files may also be used by Virtools as promotional material without any additional notice.
From what I can tell this isn’t an official Virtools sponsored competition but that doesn’t make it any less rubbish.
