November 30, 2005 | Regulus
No file update yet, but I thought I’d make a post on the way Regulus has been used around the place.
The big news, at least for me, is that Regulus is now one of the themes on Wordpress.com.
Regulus has also been used on a more than a handful of sites around the world with a few modifying the theme to make it their own.
Ajax Regulus
Ajax Regulus is a mod of Regulus which makes use of all the latest browser and server technologies. On the surface the theme is the same as normal Regulus (with a different header) but start pressing buttons and you’ll see that things have changed quite a bit. Press the comments button and they show up on the current page, press the Traducir (I’m guessing Translate) button and some flags appear that let you translate the post to whatever language you speak.

With the newly released Firefox 1.5 and the slightly less recently released Safari 1.3, there is a new canvas object added to javascript. This means you can now draw things to the screen yourself. This has the potential to be pretty big, but also the potential to be abused - much like the otherwise lovely, not in the slightest bit tacky, rippling Java applets, that were so popular many moons ago.
Canvascape - 3D Walker is the first of, what is bound to be, many tech demos showing off what people can do with the new toy, thankfully unlike the Java applet it loads pretty much instantly.
I think it’s cool.

This is more a note for myself than anything.
Macromedia have released a Flash and JavaScript integration kit, which makes it nice and easy to get flash to talk to javascript (and vice versa), something which has been rather difficult in the past.

I turned on my computer yesterday to find that Matt, the lead developer on wordpress (the software used to run this site) had left a comment saying that Regulus was now in use on Wordpress.com.
Naturally the first thing I did was head over there to check it out and my wordpress.com blog now sports a shiny new style.
There are a few things that have changed. The main one being the admin panel being removed, but it’s still nice to see my theme being used by more people. Certainly unexpected, but more than welcome.

Treadmill Bike - the successor to the ever popular bicycle. I’m sold, now where can I find a stockist in the UK?
Make sure you grab the sweet jumps video from the bottom of the page.

Last weekend I went to Estonia. I haven’t travelled much so it was nice to get away for once, and when work is paying for everything (thanks work, I really enjoyed it) - I’d be silly to say no.
A photo of most of the people who went - I’m the one with the glowing shoes (I didn’t realise they lit up like that!).
I’d love to say the holiday was full of culture and mental stimulation but we did the stereotypical 20 something males on holiday thing and spent most of the holiday either drunk or asleep. As a rule I don’t drink all that much but it’s nice to do something different once in a while - which brings me on to Hookahs…
Whilst out there I tried my first Hookah. It wasn’t something I had considered doing before, in fact if someone asked me if I wanted to try …
