Adsense

February 4, 2006 | General

The more observant amongst you will have noticed that I have recently added Adsense ads to Binary Moon. What you most likely won’t have noticed, unless you checked out Bubble Blitz online, is that I’ve also added them to Binary Sun.

Why Binary Moon?

I’m not overly keen on advertising but I thought I would try them out. To keep things nice the ads on Binary Moon will only be visible in certain places.

I’m currently playing with ad types and positioning but I will always keep things subtle and have no intention of flooding the site with intrusive ads.

Why Binary Sun?

As I’ve already mentioned Binary Sun now has it’s first online game, and more are planned, so to go with the free content I have added some skyscraper ads on the side of the page. As with Binary Moon I intend to keep the ads fairly subtle. The problem with Binary Sun, at least so far, is that the traffic there is fairly small. I have a few ideas about generating extra traffic though and I will be posting about them some time in the future.

I suggest you try Yahoo ads, they’re much better than Adsense and you get paid a lot more. I have used Adsense in the past and they don’t pay out a lot.

I had a look at Yahoo ads but as far as I can tell they are only open to people who “have a valid U.S. Social Security or Tax ID number”. Being a Brit I have neither - unless I’m missing something?

No, you’re right. The Yahoo program is only open to US publishers (and even then, they need mostly US-based traffic).

I have been using Adsense for a while now and have only earned $7 in three months with having 2000 unique visitors a month. I signed up for Yahoo and plan to give them a go.

    Mark - that’s what I thought - thanks.

Dennis - I’ve earnt more than that in my first month and I haven’t been pushing the ads down peoples throats (at least I don’t think i have?), although if you’re in the US I would recommend giving Yahoo Ads a try as well.

I used Adsense for a few months, earning me more than $100. But suddenly, out of the blue, The Google Adsense Team contacted me and told me that my account was suspended.

I had done something that was not according to their rules. I asked them what it was, but they couldn`t tell me. This is because their algorythm is secret.

As far as I know, I have never done anything that doesn`t apply to their rules. I have read them thoroughly. Even so, they closed my account, “stole” my $100. Without telling me why.

I am not that happy about Adsense :)

I would love to use Yahoo Ads, unfortunately, I am a norwegian.

Jens - that sucks. I’d pester them until they give some sort of response. They should at least give you a reason for closing your account.

I agree. I have tried almost everything.
But they are Google, big multibillion dollar business.
They can probably get away with anything :)

I have talked to several other people who have experienced the same.

I wanted to stop using their service because of this. But their adwords, gmail, search engine, analytics is just too good not to use :)

    damn you Google
