Prototype number 1

March 15, 2006 | Dev Diary #1

I’ve been very busy recently so the dev diary has been the thing that takes a back seat (again). Also I have never liked releasing things this early in case people aren’t impressed/ interested, or simply because I don’t want negative feedback. I have to keep reminding myself that this is the whole point of doing the development publicly. So let’s get it over with…

Prototype 1

Ok - Prototypes. I’ve never bothered prototyping games before, and to tell the truth am not going to start now. The idea behind prototypes is to get all of the hard work (i.e. making the game fun) out of the way. Basically if the game isn’t fun as a quick and dirty demo, then it won’t be fun when it has all the graphics done, it’ll just look better.

In the commercial world, if the game isn’t fun at the prototype stage then it can …

I’ve been interviewed!

| Video Games

I was recently interviewed by a new video games blog, Foogaming. They concentrated on my work as an independent developer with my games site binary sun.

They’re a really nice lot over there and are posting lots of news about the gaming world. If you’re interested in reading a bit more about me and my games you can head on over and check out the interview.

David Hasselhoff hits women?

March 9, 2006 | David Hasselhoff

Bad news for all you Hasselhoff lovers. Apparently he is a violent man, at least that’s what his wife, Pamela Bach, is claiming.

Thanks to Alex for the tip off.

Flat Screen TV on the cheap

March 5, 2006 | Links

Now when I say on the cheap - I don’t really mean it…

You can check out the insanity here

I reckon it would cost more in time and effort to do something like this than it would to just go out and buy a flat screen tv.

Unfortunately I don’t have a link to the website of the person who did this - I’d love to find out if anyone knows where they are and why they chose to do this.

Movie Roundup - February 06

| Movies

Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind

Jim Carrey… in a serious movie… whatever next? Ok, he’s done some straighter less comedic stuff before, but this is the most serious I’ve ever seen Jim Carey act and he pulls it off rather well. The story revolves around a man whose girlfriend (Kate Winslet) erases all her memories of him and their time together. Very upset he does the only thing he can, and erases all his memories of her. From the same author as Being John Malkovich (which I haven’t seen) this film is incredibly strange, and a little predictable. It’s not bad, and some of the camera trickery they do is really clever (only made obvious in the DVD extras).

The Twins Effect

I love watching martial arts. Jackie Chan started me off and more recently actors like Donnie Yen have helped keep things fun. This …

Microsoft removes support for Flash from IE?

March 4, 2006 | Links

Wow - just found out that Microsoft are going to be changing the way Macrodobe Flash is supported in Internet Explorer. The first quote I read said that Flash wouldn’t be supported at all, which concerned me a little since at work we base pretty much our entire business around embedded Flash (and Shockwave) content. Reading up on it it’s not quite so bad as it appeared, but it’s still not ideal.

Microsoft is expected to release updates to Internet Explorer that will change how it handles some active content such as that viewed in Adobe’s Macromedia Flash Player, Authorware Player, Shockwave Player, and Adobe Reader, as well as Sun Java, Apple QuickTime, Real Networks Real Player and other ActiveX controls.

Microsoft has stated that when viewing an affected website using the updated Internet Explorer browser, visitors will be able to see, but not interact with, the content. When a …
