Terragen – gorgeous landscapes
I first used Terragen when I was studying digital art at university. Terragen is a landscape generator that creates wonderful images, one of which used to be the header on this site.
After a couple of months of using it the developer stopped work because he got a job at a major movie special effects company (that I can't remember the name of - it was someone like Digital Domain).

Nintendo Wii (console formerly known as Revolution)
All the gaming blogs I read this morning have announced the official name of the Nintendo Revolution (see above).
To me the name is a little suspect. It looks ok on paper, but saying it out loud just encourages toilet humour.
