I first used Terragen when I was studying digital art at university. Terragen is a landscape generator that creates wonderful images, one of which used to be the header on this site.
After a couple of months of using it the developer stopped work because he got a job at a major movie special effects company (that I can't remember the name of - it was someone like Digital Domain).
Anyway now that his contract is up he's hard at work on Terragen 2 and today I saw some renders from a preview release of the new version.

The big new features (apart from looking stunning) are the vegetation and other scenery objects. It looks stunning.

That was done with Terragen 2?! I'm just getting used to Terragen 1, but I'm drooling! Hopefully TG2 will come out soon (they're saying 2006, and we're almost 1/2 way through). And hopefully they do release a non-commercial version for free.
does anyone know if its possible to use google earth or a map to recreate a real terrain set with terragen?
Thanks Tom
