Final Fantasy III

May 18, 2006 | Video Games

Final Fantasy III is coming to the DS.

“What?” I hear you scream - yep it’s gone back a few numbers. Version III has never been released outside of Japan - so they are letting us complete the series. Personally I have only ever played the 3d Final Fantasy games (numbers 8 and 9) and this game will be no exception. Square have gone and remade the entire game in 3d just for the DS.

You can see the E3 game trailer over at the Square Enix website.

I love the CG, I really hope it’s in the game, although I don’t know how of this sort of thing a DS cart can hold.

New Super Mario Brothers

May 16, 2006 | Video Games

I am almost as excited about this as I am about the new Zelda game (almost, but not quite).

Head on over to the official, New Super Mario Brothers, website to get all the info you could need. Of particular interest is the multiplayer mode, something Mario games have been a bit rubbish at in the past. It all looks wonderful, with 3d graphics presented in a 2d plane adding many new special effects and abilities to the mix.

I can’t wait. It should certainly tide me over until Zelda comes out :)

E3 2006 hi-lights

May 14, 2006 | Video Games

This was definitely Nintendo’s year at E3. They wiped the floor with everyone, having the most compelling games and most innovative hardware.

I’ve already done a very brief summary of the 3 big conferences over at the 9rules blog but I thought that I would pick out my personal favourites from the show.

Wii

The obvious attraction (based on my past posts) was the new Zelda.

Wow!

I think it looks great and am considering buying the Wii on launch day (or at least very soon after launch) just for the new Zelda game.

Of course Zelda wasn’t the only game they showed for the Wii. The new Mario game, Super Mario Galaxy, looks intriguing - but I’m not entirely convinced just yet. That said every single one of the official Nintendo Wii games looks like it will be good fun. Also you should note that a lot of them …

Mission Impossible 3

May 13, 2006 | Movies

Went to the cinema the other day to see Mission Impossible 3.

Unfortunately I can’t decide whether I liked it or not. There was lots of action, some of it quite cool, and it was a lot more emotional than previous films (or at least it tried to be). There appeared to be an attempt to make the movie more like the tv series 24 with smaller set pieces where anything can, and will, happen.

The movie starts with Toms Cruises Ethan Hunts girlfriend being killed - then steps back a few weeks to their engagement party. Ethan is now a retired operative who is training new recruits when he gets called in for “one last job”. Then follows the standard “mission goes wrong thing” that pulls him in even further.

Each Mission Impossible movie has been directed by someone different, and has tried something different with the story. Personally I don’t think …

New David Hasselhoff gallery

May 12, 2006 | David Hasselhoff

I don’t normally (never) link to people who ask me to. However I got an email today from someone asking me to mention them and I just couldn’t say no. Here’s an excerpt - maybe that will help explain why:

Sorry to be hitting your site again for Hasselhofian reasons. Any chance you could add my Hasselhoff site to your post about Hoff sites: www.hoffgallery.com

That’s right - there’s a new David Hasselhoff gallery in town. The best part? Hasselhoff thongs (check out the second page of the store) ! After all, who wouldn’t want to see a girl in a pair of knickers with David Hasselhoffs face on them?

Enjoy - Hoff Gallery

Miniclip wins a Webby Award - yay for me!

May 11, 2006 | Miniclip, Links

Miniclip, the company I work for, has won the peoples Voice Webby Award for Games, for the second year running.

Hooray.

Interestingly the site that won the critics choice for games was running a game that Miniclip commissioned. Is that a double win for us? Obviously it’s not but congrats should go to Bloc Media who made an incredibly cool game, Stackopolis.
