Nintendo DS - Web Browser preview

July 20, 2006 | Video Games

There is a video of the new (released in early October in the UK) web browser for the DS online. The browser shown is all in Japanese but it shows off the features perfectly well. I think it will be brilliant, and it means I can use the internet more easily on the move. It’s on my wish list!

New 9rules website

| Links

I have been with the 9rules collective for a good few months now - about 8 of them - and it’s all been good. I don’t normally (ever?) talk about them but this time I felt it was significant enough to say something.

The 9rules site has recently been redesigned, and a lovely redesign it is. There are a stack of new features and new ways of viewing the content. The notes feature is particularly cool as it lets anyone join in the conversation - especially since notes are category specific.

There are still teething problems, as there are with any major redesign, but I’m sure the guys will be on it pretty …

The Prestige - new Christopher Nolan movie

July 18, 2006 | Links

Just seen the trailer for The Prestige over on Apple.com and it’s looking mighty fine.

Christopher Nolan is a wonderful director who worked on one of my favourite films - Memento. More recently, and probably better known, he worked on Batman Begins which was a wonderful revival for the Batman series.

The Prestige is about two rival magicians who battle with each other for trade secrets. It’s looking great and I am eagerly awaiting it’s release.

Rubbish (dangerous) design

July 17, 2006 | General

I’ve been meaning to post about this for a while and this post by tech blogger Jeremy Keith reminded me about it. This is slightly different to the average post you’d find here on Binary Moon, so if you want the normal content you will have to wait a few days. I have a number of posts in the wings so things should be back to normal shortly.

I live in London but recently have been making many trips to Norwich, a city about 120 miles away. Norwich is a lovely peaceful place, and has many things to recommend it but there is one thing that really frustrates me. The crossing signals.

I don’t really see the point in going over them again since you can see the problem on Jeremies post of the same subject, but I have to …

Nintendo give George W Brain Age: Train your brain for his birthday

July 6, 2006 | Video Games

Nintendo recently did, what has to be, the best piece of marketing ever. They gave the President of the USA, George W Bush, a Nintendo DS Lite with Brain Age: train your brain in minutes a day for his birthday.

Genius. Pure, unadulterated brilliance.

How better to get your brand name out there than to give your product to one of the most influential men in the United States of America?

The game is pretty good as well.

Please accept our gift of a new Nintendo DS Lite system and a copy of Brain Age: Train Your Brain in Minutes a Day. You now join millions of people around the world who have fun challenging themselves with Brain Age. If you have never played a video game before, don’t worry. Brain Age is part of our new Touch Generations brand, which includes games that are easy for people of any …

Movie Roundup - June 06

Chocolat

A rather nice little story about a lady who makes everyone happy, apart from herself, with the healing power of chocolate. I was pleasantly surprised by this film and would recommend it to anyone who wants something nice and peaceful to watch on a Sunday afternoon - naturally chocolate must be involved (my favourite is white chocolate)

Tristan and Isolde

I had read a little about the story of Tristan and Isolde in another book recently and it sounded intriguing. Adapted from an opera composed by Richard Wagner in 1856-9, Tristan and Isolde is the tale of two star crossed lovers. Unfortunately it was basically Romeo and Juliet (admittedly it came before but is, at least in my mind, less well known), hence something I was not very interested in.

The Big White

Robin Williams. …
