W3tabless

November 29, 2006 | Paid Reviews

Since there were no objections I am going to give the whole reviewing thing a go. This is my first ReviewMe review that isn’t about ReviewMe (yes… it’s a paid review).

The site in question is w3 tableless. The first sentence on their website explains the purpose of the site but to save some time here it is again:

Validate your tableless website, link to us and you are automatically registered in our network of tableless designed sites.

The first thing I noticed was the rotating cube of screenshots. It seems to be a way to look at previously submitted tableless sites. Personally I would have gone for a simple text list, but at least it’s in Flash and not a Java Applett. The second thing I noticed was the design. It’s not particularly attractive, which seems strange for a site which is essentially a website showcase, but that too …

Blogging for money - should I do it?

November 28, 2006 | General

I have been thinking about the whole “blogging for profit” thing recently - in particular ReviewMe.

Have I really sold my soul to the devil if I start reviewing other peoples stuff?

So far I’ve had two offers to review things from Review Me. The first was for a last.fm style site for movies, but that didn’t happen because I didn’t respond quickly enough - you only have 48 hours to accept the offer and I had gone away for the weekend. The second I received this morning and it’s what prompted this post. I want to know what the people who read my blog think about me reviewing products. Originally I said I would only do it for things I thought others would be interested in, but now I’m wondering if I should just grab the money while I have the chance.

Assuming I do go ahead and review things …

Malaysia - Taman Negara

November 22, 2006 | Travel, General

After the east coast we headed back to central Malaysia and Taman Negara. Taman Negara is Malaysia’s premiere National Park, and the largest rain forest in Malaysia covering 4343 square kilometers.

In our time in Taman Negara we went on a night walk in the jungle, walked through the treetops in a canopy walk, raced down the rapids in tiny little boat (huge fun), and went on a night time safari drive. Oh - and one evening we got attacked by literally thousands of huge bugs that seemed intent on flying into us… and then collapsing on the table in front of us… dead.

Wonderlost - Alice in Wonderland

November 20, 2006 | Links

I love gothic art, and I love stylised art so Wonderlost - which seems to be the sort of thing you would get if you let Tim Burton create porcelain dolls - is right up my street.

The Wonderlost series is my artistic interpretation and dark twist on the numerous characters from Lewis Carroll’s “Alice in Wonderland” and “Through the Looking Glass” stories. The theme across the whole series is to give each character the look of a porcelain doll, with very pale bleach white skin and bleached white clothing.

The pictures, despite being light in colour, are incredibly dark in tone and I love that sort of thing.

Regulus 2.2.1 update

November 19, 2006 | Regulus

I said before that Regulus is now complete, and it is, but from time to time there will likely be bug fixes… as there is now.

This release fixes the following (from changes.txt)

You can grab the download from the normal place:

I have also decided to remove the version for Wordpress 1.5. Anyone that is still using version 1.5 of Wordpress is, I am afraid, going to be left out from now on. I don’t see the point in supporting a theme for a product that is no longer supported itself.

There may also be some cool news happening in the world of Regulus so I will talk about that when I know more.

Malaysia - The East Coast

November 18, 2006 | Travel, General

After the coolness of the Highlands we went over to the East coast for some more sea based action. We spent a day traveling from the highlands down to the coast, and stayed in a small place in Marang (or was it Merang?) and then took another day to travel down to Cherating where we spent a very pleasant afternoon soaking in the warm sea by our coastal hotel.

In order to see the sun rise we got up early on both of the days that we traveled, and on both days the sun was hidden behind clouds - but it still gave some very pretty skies. We also had one of my favorite meals of the holiday in a beach side restaurant in Cherating.

The hotel we stayed at was rather nice and had two pools that we could soak in, along with a wonderful buffet breakfast where I got …
