What has blogging given me?

November 16, 2006 | General

Justin Shattuck hit me up with a new meme that’s been started. It’s only two layers deep at the moment which is unusual since I nearly always seem to be tagged right at the end of a memes life. I know it’s a meme and they seem to be frowned upon these days, but I thought it was interesting so am going to carry it on anyway.

David Peralty from David Cubed says:

Justin says:

As a blogger, the opportunity to reflect and share the material and non-material rewards from such ventures is interesting. This discussion may seem like bragging, I agree with David in hoping that these threads inspire individuals to keep writing and reap similar rewards.

And whilst I agree with the sentiment I can’t help but feel a little jealous. I like to think I have gained from blogging. I have made some new friends (albeit online), …

Malaysia - Cameron Highlands

November 14, 2006 | Travel, General

The Cameron Highlands (I really like their website) are the highest place in mainland Malaysia, so are also the coolest. Because of the cooler climate they grow a wide variety of fruit and veg (many strawberry’s) in the Highlands. They also have vast tea plantations that are spread over some very steep hills (erm… mountains).

I must admit I had been surprised by the coolness of Malaysia before visiting the Highlands. I knew we had (purposely) picked one of the coolest times of year but I had still expected things to be hotter - but the Cameron …

Good open source software

November 11, 2006 | Links

Forevergeek mentioned a site that lists 71 Open source programs for Windows and I found it rather interesting. There were a couple of pieces of software in there I wasn’t aware of and will be trying out.

ReviewMe Launches

November 10, 2006 | Paid Reviews, Links

ReviewMe is a new site from the people who created Text Links Ads (I’ll be posting about them soon as well).

To coincide with the launch ReviewMe are giving away $25000 worth of reviews for their own site. I will be earning $50 simply by writing this post.

There are a couple of restrictions to the reviewing.

I’m not sure how I am supposed to write a review of their service considering I have only been using it for half an hour but so far it seems pretty good.

Registration is painless and adding a new site is quick and easy. You get given a ranking and a price per review (calculated from Technorati and Alexa). Each review I write costs the company …

Zamzar - Free online file conversion

November 9, 2006 | Links

The title says pretty much everything.

Zamzar is a new website that converts files from one format to another.

That’s about it really. I’m making this post as a bookmark in case I ever need to use it in the future - obviously being “web 2.0″ they can’t have a memorable name.

Malaysia - Kuala Lumpur and Pangkor

November 8, 2006 | Travel, General

The reason I went to Malaysia is because my Aunt and Uncle are teachers at a college over there. They have been living in Malaysia for 3 or 4 years now and will likely stay there for at least a couple more. When they came home last Christmas they asked my brother (Joe) and I if we would like to go over and visit them some time. We both thought it would be an enjoyable experience and said yes.

We spent most of our time in Malaysia travelling around the country stopping for a couple of nights at a time in different areas. The next few posts on Binary Moon will be about the places we visited and include some of the many hundreds of photos we took whilst in Malaysia.
