I read the first two Eragon books recently, the third and final is currently being written. My timing seems to have been quite good because as I was reading the second book, I found out that there was a film being made… and then there are the inevitable video games. Now on the company I work at are running ads for Eragon on our website. It’s everywhere!
The youth of Christopher Paolini, the author, and the success it has achieved are astounding. Christopher was 15 when he graduated from school and started the first book, and 18 when he started the second. The book was self published by his parents, and is now being turned into a movie (released next week) and video games for pretty much every game format.

Elebits is a new game for the Nintendo Wii and until I saw the following video I wasn’t overly interested in it.
It rather reminds me of the Half Life 2 physics demo that was set up all that time ago, albeit on a smaller scale.

FireBug lets you explore the far corners of the DOM by keyboard or mouse. All of the tools you need to poke, prod, and monitor your JavaScript, CSS, HTML and Ajax are brought together into one seamless experience, including a debugger, an error console, command line, and a variety of fun inspectors.
I have been using Firebug extensively to help when designing websites and today Phu pointed out that a beta of the new version has been released. I don’t need to use it at the moment but based on a five minute pay that I’ve just had it’s well worth a download and will no doubt be used extensively in the future.

24 Ways was started last year by Drew McLellan. He calls it a geek advent calendar. I call it cool… which must make me a geek.
Last year there were many cool new web based hints tips and general goodness released, and based on the first 3, this year looks to be more of the same. If you’re a web geek like me then this could be a good springboard for new ideas for your site.
Let’s hope it continues as a yearly thing.

Since there were no objections I am going to give the whole reviewing thing a go. This is my first ReviewMe review that isn’t about ReviewMe (yes… it’s a paid review).
The site in question is w3 tableless. The first sentence on their website explains the purpose of the site but to save some time here it is again:
Validate your tableless website, link to us and you are automatically registered in our network of tableless designed sites.
The first thing I noticed was the rotating cube of screenshots. It seems to be a way to look at previously submitted tableless sites. Personally I would have gone for a simple text list, but at least it’s in Flash and not a Java Applett. The second thing I noticed was the design. I have been thinking about the whole “blogging for profit” thing recently - in particular ReviewMe.
Have I really sold my soul to the devil if I start reviewing other peoples stuff?
So far I’ve had two offers to review things from Review Me. The first was for a last.fm style site for movies, but that didn’t happen because I didn’t respond quickly enough - you only have 48 hours to accept the offer and I had gone away for the weekend. The second I received this morning and it’s what prompted this post. I want to know what the people who read my blog think about me reviewing products. Originally I said I would only do it for things I thought others would be interested in, but now I’m wondering if I should just grab the money while I have the chance.
Assuming I do go ahead and review things …
