Acrobots – flash toy
A quick link with something for you to play with. Acrobots is totally pointless but also a great waste of time.
The way the little creatures grab on to any surface they can, and the way they reach for each other as they fall is wonderful to watch. I like to add loads of the acrobots together and then watch as they jump and climb over themselves trying to hold as many hands as possible.
I'm sure that it's all technically ...
Slow posting on Binary Moon – I now have a Wii
Posting here is going to slow down for the next week or two. I have finally managed to get hold of a Nintendo Wii (only 6 months after launch) and will be playing that for the next week or two. I wish to complete the new Legend of Zelda game - the Twighlight Princess, which I have been waiting for for the last few years.
I actually have a few things to talk about as well. I saw the ...
The Virginia Tech tragedy and violent video games
The recent shooting at Virginia Tech has affected, and shocked, many people and it's a terrible tragedy that something so awful could happen. My thoughts go out to all those involved and I hope they can get back to some semblance of normality as soon as possible.
Video GamesAs tragic as this event was video games are yet again being blamed for the issue. Within hours of the incident Jack Thompson had managed to get onto the television, ...
Opera and Flash 7 on the Wii
The official version of Opera for the Wii has now been released, it's out of beta, and in a couple of months Nintendo are going to start charging for the browser - so naturally you want it to work properly yeah?
Opera have recently explained why the browser only supports Flash version 7 and it's not for the sort of reasons you would expect. Basically Adobe, the company that owns Flash, have only provided an SDK (software development kit) for the ...
Penn and Teller on Creationism: Bullshit
Found this on Webnv.net today.
Intelligent DesignEvolution is a theory not a fact, regarding the origin of living things. This material should be approached with an open mind, studied carefully, and critically considered.
RealityIntelligent design isn't validated by any science or anything, we just made it up
Personally I still think that the FSMism folks have it right.
300 + Paulo = Xerxes?
I went to see 300 at the Imax cinema in London recently and it is one of the best films I have seen in a long time. I like powerful films and, whilst the story was a little thin, this film was VERY powerful.
Nobody goes to see a film like 300 for the story, but what there was of it was done more than well enough. For those who aren't aware (and I'm late to ...
Boku – game making for infants?
Alice from Wonderland has recently mentioned a new piece of software by Microsoft called Boku. I have tried looking all the obvious places but can find very few references to it anywhere.
Boku’s programming model is extremely simple as it does not use a textual language or wiring diagrams. Kids use simple behavior cards to enable a small virtual robot to navigate its world and achieve specific tasks.
One of the developers on the project has a blog on Live Spaces ...
Ratatouille – Pixar movie trailer
The full trailer for the latest Pixar movie, Ratatouille, is now online and it looks... interesting. It's the least "hero movie" of any of the Pixar films, in fact it looks like there will be very little action at all. In fact this movie looks like it will be entirely character driven. This should probably come as no surprise since it's the second Pixar film directed by Brad Bird - the man responsible for the wonderful cartoon - ...
