Oh so long I have been waiting for this news. Back in the day (about 4 or 5 years ago now) I was a massive Buffy the Vampire slayer fan. It was a couple of series before I started watching it but once I got in I was hooked. I am pretty well versed in Buffy lore and have been hearing rumours about the spin off - Ripper - for quite some time now.
For those not "in the know" Ripper is the nickname of Anthony Stewart Heads character, Rupert Giles (Anthony is possibly better known as the Nescafe man, or the Prime Minister from Little Britain).
Anyway the spin off was meant to be in the same universe as Buffy - only moved to England, Giles home country. It was supposed to follow Giles as he battles ghosts and the paranormal (which in the Buffyverse are real), with the possibility of the occasional guest appearance from the Buffy cast that survived the final episode.
Well, finally, it appears that the show has gotten the go ahead (it was announced at Comic Con 2007) and they are now planning a made for tv movie to test the waters. With the success of Dr Who I really hope the BBC pick it up and make it something worth watching.

Since I know "they" watch the blogs, here's another set of eyes waiting for this. No need to test waters. Buffy was a risk. Take another.
Yeah - I'm hoping they turn it into a series as well. I love both Buffy and Firefly (why did they have to cancel it
) and think this would be a winner.
Looking forward to this happening
Wow, interesting news- Thanks Ben. It would definately be something worth watching. I hope they do it.
If they really do make it, it will be the best news this decade. I miss that show so much.
firstly... YAY FOR ANTHONY HEAD!!!!! he is AWESOME... I think we can forgive the British for Elton John's flambouyancy now... MAKE THE DARN SHOW AND GIVE US AMERICANS SOME MORE HOT BRITISH GUYS TO DROOL OVER!!!
Oh yeah... and when the heck is Michael Crawford coming out of retirement? I was very disappointed he didn't reprise his role as Phantom in the movie.
I posted this in 2007 so I'm thinking it may have been delayed
Agreed that Michael Crawford is the classic Phantom too - although not sure he would have been appropriate in the film.
