Get $25 for free with Auction Ads

September 6, 2007 | Links

I have finally decided to give Auction Ads a go. At first I was sceptical as I couldn’t see that many people would actually spend any money following ebay links. To tell the truth I’m still sceptical but the recent offer to give people $25 just for signing up prompted me into action.

Apparently Auction Ads work best when they are on niche/ focused sites, so Binary Joy having an audience of gamers, should be ideal… I hope. Initially they will be kept out of the way, and I will be interested to see if they make me anything at all. It’s an experiment more than anything.

If you’re interested in trying them out then sign up any time this month (September 2007) and they will credit $25 to your account.

Homebrew Space photography

September 4, 2007 | Links

Ever fancied taking photographs from space? One of my friends was recently telling me about how he was going to take photos with a camera suspended from a kite… but this takes things to a whole other level.

The basic recipe is:

  • 1 x small helium weather balloon
  • 1 x digital camera with interval shots
  • 1 x small parachute, and a GPS tracker
  • And what do you get (after a whole bunch of attempts)? Something like this…

    and even this

You can see even more photos over at the projects homepage. I’m envious - the photos look great - personally I rather like a lot of the pictures as the balloon is passing through the outer parts of the atmosphere.

Thanks to Geekdad and Wired for pointing this out to me.
