His Dark Materials

November 2, 2007 | Videos

In the trailers before Stardust we saw the trailer for the Golden Compass (known to Brits as Northern Lights), the (first?) movie of the first book from the ‘His Dark Materials’ trilogy by Philip Pullman.

I was already quite interested in the film, and finding out that Weta (think Lord of the Rings trilogy) are doing the special effects makes me even more so.

The comments on the Youtube post are showing some concern about the content of the book - all related to religion. However according to imdb and Wikipedia the film has been tweaked to remove references to religion. Personally I don’t care, the trailer looks great and I hope it does justice to the books.

I cannot wait for this movie … well specifically the trilogy of movies. And i agree, i hope that the whole ‘remove references to religion’ thing isn’t true, because thats the crux of the story!

Hi I’m Matt from DaemonNet.com, a His Dark Materials fan site.. I saw The Golden Compass movie last night and I thought it was amazing. I was really pleasantly surprised with how well the film sticked to the story line even though there were a few changes.

Matt - I’m glad you enjoyed it. I’m hoping to go and see it in a week or two so it’s good to hear that it worked well :)
