Regulus 2.3 theme update

Finally - an update to Regulus. The updates are coming further and further apart, and this is simply because the theme does everything I set out to do... and quite a bit more. This version is mostly bug fixes but there are a couple of nice new features.

Regulus 2.3 update

Additions

  • The banner image is now a link, meaning you can click it to go to your homepage. You can also change this link to point anywhere you like, which is good for those of you who use Wordpress as a blog and something else for the rest of your website.
  • You can also now change the text for the home link in the tabbed navigation. The main reason for this is for people who use the static homepage feature of wordpress, but it's also nice to be able to customise things that little bit more.
  • Finally there are a few new colour schemes - nothing earth shattering but I think they look good and are a nice way to liven up your website.
  • Support for tags (available in wordpress 2.3). It's not particularly advanced but it does add them in case you want to make use of them.

Waiting

I actually finished this a couple of weeks ago, and have been trying to get the folks over at wordpress.com to update it there so that both versions were in sync. Unfortunately they've been a little slow so it's not updated there, so I decided to release it anyway. Hopefully it's not too much longer before it's all working.

Go get it!

  • Pablo - I am not intending to release any new versions of Regulus any time soon (if ever) I am afraid, however I am working on a "Pro" version of the theme - maybe you could do something for that?

  • Hi Ben,
Thanks for a great layout. I'm having a problem - I cant get subpages of subpages to show up in the right-hand navigation bar. For example, let's say I have this hierarchy:

    Page A
    - Page B
    -- Page B1
    -- Page B2
    -- Page B3
    - Page C
    - Page D

when I click on Page B1, the navigation bar still just shows Page B, Page C, and Page D instead of Page B1, Page B2, and Page B3. Anything I can do about this? Thanks!

  • my customised header gets "zoomed in" when using firefox (despite it being 730x140 pixels as required). it works perfectly fine with internet explorer though.

    can this be fixed somehow?

  • love your theme. been using it for a while--both hosted at Wordpress.com and self-hosted. A problem I've run into though is using the text box or "about" info that is supposed to post at top of sidebar. all the hard coded links default to website address of the blog rather than my "mailto" or "calendar" web addresses. any thoughts.

  • Really a great theme... even if on WP.com there is not all the features... Soon I'm going to use it on a hosted blog and I'll use it for sure!!!

  • I use the Regulus theme and am in the process of moving my blog to a new domain. Any suggestions on how to increase the font size of the sidebar list items? The only thing that seems to have an effect is increasing the font size under the body element, but this makes all the other text larger too.

  • Nevermind, I figured it out! I increased the text size in my sidebar widgets by inserting the following into the stylesheet:

    #sidebar #linkcat-2 li {font-size:1.2em;}
    #sidebar #recent-posts li {font-size:1.2em;}
    #sidebar #recentcomments li {font-size:1.2em;}

Sorry to be a pest! Thanks for making Regulus so tweakable. :)

  • When will the new version of wordpress 2.7 's features, for example does not work pagenavi coments

  • Hi Ben, is it possible to change the background of the Regulus theme?

    • Ria - short answer. Yes :)

However it depends where you use Regulus. If you have it on WordPress.com you can change it but you will need to buy the css upgrade in order to do so. If you have it on your own website then you can change anything.

  • Hey Ben,

Thanks so much for the great theme. I am new to the blogging scene. I've noticed that the font when my post get sent out through feedbrurner and on the blog is very small. I can't seem to find a way to enlarge it anywhere. Is this only possible through upgrading to edit CSS or is there a simple way to change the font size that I am not seeing?

    • Hi Tim - really glad you like the theme :)

Unfortunately The font size within feedburner is controlled by feedburner.com and not something anyone else can affect. The font on your site for the most recent post seems to have had the font modified by some css, which I assume was done via the post editor. If you go and edit the post you should be able to remove the font styles to put the font size back to normal.

  • My only issue is that on line 38 of the comments.php file you have it loading a function called gravatar instead of get_avatar. I wonder if that was because that was the way way back when you released this version instead of the way that WordPress 2.5 has it built in. Since 2.5 was released years after this theme version was released I guess that is the case.

  • Sorry my last comment was off on time for some reason I was thinking the original version in 2005 instead of 2.3 near the end of 2007 & since 2.5 was released on March 29th 2008, it was only about 4 months difference between when you released this version of the regulus theme & gravatar support was added directly into the core of WordPress changing the function from "gravatar" to "get_avatar". I figure at least updating the info to include that or a new version to fix that issue.

  • Ben,

Love the template. Want to use it in the mirror site I have simplifiedenglish.org. How can I take your download and implement it on my host.

    Thanks

    Tony

    • Hi Tony - glad you like the theme :)

Regulus isn't in the themes directory (perhaps I should do that...), but you can install it the "old fashioned way". All you have to do is open up your website with an ftp client, and then upload the extracted zip contents to wp-content/themes/ and then you will be able to select the theme from the appearance menu in the control panel as normal.

  • Hi
Thank you for making THE theme I needed to match my blog content.
I do have a puzzle, and I hope you can provide a link to tech support forum or whatever where this has been answered.

I can't seem to get the home page tab to display no matter what I do.
It says 'no posts found' (or something like that) when people visit my site.

The 'best' substitute I could do was to get one of the other page tabs to serve as the landing page (which is not what I want).

if you could let me know the link, I would sincerely appreciate it.
    Thanks.

  • Regulis question:

I am new in blogging and wordpress.
I created a lot of pages and they have long titles.
The names of these pages I put on the side bar, but I also see them right under header. Can I change it?

Also, I tell peopel on the pages, that they can Enter an information on the right to get me to contact them. but I do not know which widgit to use.

    Please, help

  • Do not update the theme.
When will there be Regulus 2.4

  • Hi Ben,
I really love regulus, the simplicity so impress me. I'm a newbie in scripting, could you tell me how to modified the single post page (since regulus have not single.php file), or could you tell me where i can find regulus documentation?

    Thanks
