Fun with Physics

April 7, 2008 | Videos, Links

There have been a couple of very cool physics toys released recently and since they’re fun to play with and free (and I like this sort of thing) I thought I’d give them a mention.

Phun with Physics

The first was a couple of weeks ago and is called Phun with Physics. It’s a wonderful free toy where you can build your own contraptions from the physics object and then release them into the world to interact with each other. You should watch all of the video as it starts off fairly basic and ends up showing some pretty advanced stuff. All the demos in the video are available in the free download too.

OECake from Prometech Software, Inc.

This one doesn’t have such a catchy title, but OECake is just as clever. The cool thing about OECake is the way the objects are generated. Rather than using primitive shapes you can simply paint the objects into the world and they will instantly take on the properties you specified. I really like the softbody objects and the way they interact with the water and fire.

Interestingly you can also import your own images and watch them bounce and break around the environment.
