Wordpress 2.7 and Crazyhorse

August 28, 2008 | Web Design

Last weekend I spent a few days away from Wordpress and work in general to spend some quality time with the girlfriend. When I got back and updated my local copy of Wordpress (via svn) I was surprised to see that they had started to incorporate all of the user testing information feedback they had received at the test camps earlier this year.

I am really pleased to see the changes as they are moving Wordpress in a very positive direction. I was never particularly bothered by the Wordpress 2.5 admin update. It looked a lot nicer that the old version but there were a number of changes I disagreed with. However, I am very pleased to say, the new version is working much better.

Below are screenshots of the new Dashboard (only added today) and the new Write Post page, click for a bigger image.

A short history of Miniclip.com

August 27, 2008 | Links

Rob, my boss and CEO of Miniclip.com, was recently interviewed by the Financial Times in the UK - and they put a video of the interview online for all to see.

I’d have embedded the video here but for some reason they have made embedding needlessly difficult so I’ll go for a link instead.

There’s lots of corporate speak going on there, but some of you may find it interesting :) The top of my head is visible through 90% of the film but otherwise I don’t show.

What they don’t mention in the video is that Rob got attacked by a variety of Nerf guns halfway through the interview, it’s a shame they cut that bit!

Apparently some people can’t view the video above as they have to log in, so here’s a youtube video that some kind soul has posted.

Sumo Omni review

August 19, 2008 | Reviews, General

I’ve been reading other bloggers websites with envy over the last year or so, constantly seeing the Sumo bean bags popping up all over the place. What did I have to do to get my own? I could have bought one of course, but they’re not cheap - and I didn’t want to splash the cash without seeing one.

Last week my prayers were answered, and my patience rewarded, when I was contacted by the CEO of Sumo asking if I wanted to review the Omni. Obviously I spent a few days mulling it over (aka choosing a colour - I went for the brown)… before biting his hand off.

It arrived on Monday, and it’s awesome! The postman wasn’t overjoyed at having to deliver a 4.5 foot by 5.5 foot bean bag, but that wasn’t my problem, and he’s always late anyway so he deserves to do some proper work …

Wall-E review

August 12, 2008 | Reviews, Movies

Wall-E is awesome - the best Pixar film yet… although I say that pretty much every time they release a new one. It tells the story of a lone robot, left to clear up the mess left behind on earth by an escaping human crowd. Like many robots Wall-E does not speak, at least not in the traditional sense of the word. What he does do is beep and whirl much like another R2-D2 from Star Wars - anyone who notices an aural similarity between Wall-E and R2D2 will be pleased to hear the man behind the sound effects for R2-D2, Ben Burtt, also did Wall-E and most of the other robots from the film.

One of the biggest and best things about the film are the tiny tiny bits of detail and dirt and dust that are added to every little thing. There are moments where, despite …

Ben and Jerry (and Jo)

August 2, 2008 | General

Last weekend my girlfriend and I went to the Ben and Jerries Sundae festival (on Sunday no less). This is a small festival on Clapham Common in London, England. It’s run by Ben and Jerries ice cream and has a variety of partners within, all promoting green things (renewable energy etc), and generally being nice and ethical - all things I believe quite strongly in.

There was also a stage with live music and, best of all, as much free Ben and Jerries ice cream as you can eat. I had a fair amount but (un?)fortunately not enough to throw up!

The weather was boiling and I succeeded quite nicely in burning myself (legs and arms) so am a little tender at the moment, thankfully not too pink though. The highlight for me, apart from the free ice cream, was meeting Jerry - the co founder of Ben and Jerries ice …
