Harry Potter Conspiracy Theory #3: Snape

October 15, 2005 | Harry Potter

Before I continue I’m going to give some warning for those who still haven’t read the Harry Potter books. If, like me, you like to be surprised when you read something new - leave now

Snape is an enigma. What is he doing? From the very first book it has been made incredibly clear that two things are true. Firstly Snape hates Harry as much as anyone can hate; and secondly, Dumbledore trusts Snape implicitly. So when, at the end of the sixth book, Snape kills Dumbledore and runs from the chance to do the same thing to Harry everything we thought we knew got flipped on it’s head.

Is Snape Good or Evil?

The question everyone is wondering. Is Snape really evil? After all he did kill Dumbledore, was Dumbledores death an elaborate hoax, or did Snape plot with Dumbledore to …

Harry Potter Conspiracy Theory #2: Dumbledore

Before I continue I’m going to give some warning for those who still haven’t read the Harry Potter books. If, like me, you like to be surprised when you read something new - leave now

This post is a follow on from my earlier Harry Potter theory about RAB.

So, let’s start with the obvious…

Is Dumbledore really dead?

There are people who seem to think that Dumbledore hasn’t died and is actually still alive and kicking. I disagree. Whilst the arguments on sites like DumbledoreIsNotDead.com appear to be based in truth, they could be reversed to explain that yes, he has gone.

There is a book called ‘The Hero with a Thousand Faces’ - you can read a decent summary here - which explains the hero’s journey, also known as a monomyth. Essentially what this is, is a template for heroic adventure; a structure that heroic stories generally follow.

Harry Potter Conspiracy Theory #1: RAB

August 1, 2005 | Harry Potter

As I mentioned previously I fancy having a go at working out what is going on in the world of Harry Potter. I’m going to split my theories up into a series of posts, each about a different element of the books. Since I’ve already mentioned him this one is going to be about RAB.

Before I continue I’m going to give some warning for those who still haven’t read the Harry Potter books. If, like me, you like to be surprised when you read something new - leave now

RAB are the initials of a character mentioned towards the end of book 6, Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince. The initials are found in a message which is in a locket which is, initially at least, thought to be a Horcrux. The message reads:

To the Dark Lord I know I will be dead long before you read this …

Harry Potter Theories

July 26, 2005 | Harry Potter

The Harry Potter post I made when I finished reading the Half Blood Prince has been way more successful than I had imagined it would be. In fact I didn’t even consider it would be different to any other normal post I make - it was written simply because I enjoy the books. However the post ended up getting ranked 2nd on Google for Harry Potter RAB (it’s not any more), RAB being one of the big mysteries of the sixth book, and the hits to my site came flooding in. I’m currently at just under 140 comments and I should think it will grow a bit more yet.

It’s all died down now but I did have a small panic about the amount of traffic I was getting, and hurriedly installed a page caching plugin that stops the server from having to do so much work.

How did …

Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince

July 17, 2005 | Harry Potter

So… anyone else read it yet?

I bought my copy late Saturday morning, there were loads of copies available, and a rather miserable looking witch handing them out. I bought my copy in Bexleyheath, which is fairly close to where I live, and Alan Rickman was due to make an appearance and sign copies of the book. I couldn’t be bothered to wait around (he was already late when I decided to go home) but I must admit, having now read it, there are a few questions I would like to ask him.

Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince (HBP) was up to JK Rowlings usual standard. The story was incredibly easy to read (one of the reasons I finished it so quickly), and very well written.

Before we meet up with Harry (chapter 3) there are a couple of chapters that fill in gaps and refresh you on events …
