New computer = new software to install
I got my first laptop computer this weekend and, as with all new computer purchases, it's time to fill the hard disk with the software I use on a daily basis. I thought I would list the software I use, and why below. Partly because I thought others might be interested to see what I use, and partly because I will then have a list of software I use for the next time I get a pc (no doubt things ...
.Net magazine – out now – featuring me!
The latest issue of .Net magazine is published today, and in it is an article written by me, about Miniclip.com.
It was actually a task that was thrust upon me after my return from Malaysia, however I enjoy this sort of thing so was happy to give it a go.
The article ended up being a short piece on the history ...
Time in Istanbul
I'm a lucky person. Last year work took me to Estonia for our Christmas do. This year it was Istanbul, Turkey.
Unfortunately I have been really busy these last few weeks so this post is a little delayed.
We had a couple of great guides in the form of a colleague (and all round great bloke) and his wife - Thorsten, and Nilli; and I want to say how much I enjoyed my stay out there and how grateful I ...
In game ads don’t work?
Advertising in games is something that has been getting a lot of media attention recently. Some reports say that gamers love it, provided things are in context (ads on billboards in a city for example) and, more recently, they say they don't like it... as mentioned in the report posted on gamesindustry.biz
The audience sampled was only 120 gamers which sounds a little low to me, but the opinion matches those of other gamers I have spoken to about this. ...
Time in France
A couple of weeks ago I took my girlfriend to Paris for a long weekend away. I would have written about it earlier but two days after returning I went to Turkey (Istanbul) for my Christmas party with work, so I haven't had a chance until now.
Anyway, it was Jo's (my girlfriends) birthday so I thought I would treat her to a visit abroad. Jo had never been on a plane before so I decided to fly us there rather ...
Blogging for money – should I do it?
I have been thinking about the whole "blogging for profit" thing recently - in particular ReviewMe.
Have I really sold my soul to the devil if I start reviewing other peoples stuff?
So far I've had two offers to review things from Review Me. The first was for a last.fm style site for movies, but that didn't happen because I didn't respond quickly enough - you only have 48 hours to accept the offer and I had gone away for ...
Malaysia – Taman Negara
After the east coast we headed back to central Malaysia and Taman Negara. Taman Negara is Malaysia's premiere National Park, and the largest rain forest in Malaysia covering 4343 square kilometers.
In our time in Taman Negara we went on a night walk in the jungle, walked through the treetops in a canopy walk, raced down the rapids in tiny little boat (huge fun), and went on a night time safari drive. Oh - and one evening we got ...
Malaysia – The East Coast
After the coolness of the Highlands we went over to the East coast for some more sea based action. We spent a day traveling from the highlands down to the coast, and stayed in a small place in Marang (or was it Merang?) and then took another day to travel down to Cherating where we spent a very pleasant afternoon soaking in the warm sea by our coastal hotel.
In order to see the sun rise we got up early ...
