Miniclip Game Development Competition
Not to be outdone by the BBC and Channel 4, Miniclip has today announced that we are going to run a Flash game development competition.
We've been thinking about doing something like this for a while now, and are really excited to see the types of games that people are going to come up with. I'm bound to be biased but I must say I think our competition is the best of the bunch. The main advantage ...
A Book Baton
I have been passed a book baton by Phu Ly from IfElse, who is one of the few people who comment here (thanks Phu ). I suspect he saw me complaining that no-one passed me the musical baton that did the rounds not too long ago and took pity on me.
I read a fair amount of books getting through three or four a month, but most of them are action adventure/ fantasy affairs. Nothing too heavy, ...
ICE – In Case of Emergency
I got an email from Georgiana today telling me about a very good idea thought up by a Cambridge based paramedic.
Bob Brotchie, a clinical team leader for the East Anglian Ambulance NHS Trust, hatched the plan last year after struggling to get contact details from shocked or injured patients.
By entering the acronym ICE – for In Case of Emergency – into the mobile’s phone book, users can log the name and number of someone who should be contacted in ...
Life goes on
I'm back at work today, I wasn't expecting the trains/ underground to be running but everything that could work was. In general things are relatively normal, the train and tube were a lot quieter than normal but that doesn't really surprise me.
The response to the blasts during the day was very good. The emergency services were incredibly coordinated and, considering the disruption something like this should have caused, everything went very smoothly. The news spread amazingly fast ...
Explosions in London
There have been a series of explosions in London, UK. Initially it was an explosion in one underground train station, but they kept on coming. There have so far been 5 explosions in underground stations and 3 on buses.
Because of these explosions the underground has been totally closed and overground trains aren't being allowed into London any more.
At work we're fairly close to Liverpool street station which was one of the stations that had the explosion. Thankfully everyone got ...
Railway Congestion Charges… Great!
Now that they've priced us off the roads by charging £5 to enter London in a car (soon to be £8) the railway companies have decided that the best thing to do is add a 'congestion charge' for trains.
The whole point of congestion charges was to get people off the roads and onto public transport. Part of the congestion charges was supposed to be spent improving public transport (including trains) and now we're expected to pay extra for an underperforming ...
A new member of the family
Last weekend my parents got home from a hard day at work (they own a pet shop) and with them brought a new member of the family. We now have a pet dog.
He's not the first dog we've had, and is far from the only pet we've got in the house. Currently there are 3 cats, 3 tortoises, 2 rabbits, and 3 aviaries full of ...
A stolen meme
It was my birthday last month (April) and my parents bought me a very cool mp3 player. It has only been on sale since the 20th of May so this week it finally arrived.
I decided not to get an iPod because... well... everyone's got one. So I asked for, what I thought, looked like a better option.
The Sony HD5 (the name isn't as catchy as the iPods) has a replacable, rechargable battery that lasts up to 30 ...
