3 Reasons why I suck as a blogger
Recently I have been thinking about Binary Moon and why it has plateaued and wondering if I can help it grow anymore. I like to think the site has some interesting content, and that it's not inoffensive to look at, so why is my traffic starting to drop?
1. Lack of focusI have never had any sort of focus on Binary Moon. I jump around quite regularly between video games and web design with the occasional movie based post, and I ...
5 Google Analytics things I would change
I really like Google Analytics. I use it pretty much exclusively for my website stat tracking, and the recent update is wonderful. However there are a few things I would like to change to improve it even more.
In case you haven't heard of Google Analytics, it's a service offered by Google which tracks the visitors to your website. The security concious amongst you will be happy to know that no personally identifiable information is sent, and the web designers... ...
Binary Moon search results
A couple of weeks ago I installed a plugin that tracks what people search for on my site. I wanted to see what people were interested in and, more importantly, what they were searching for that I don't actually talk about here.
Unsurprisingly Harry Potter (or Harry, or Potter) was the number 1 thing people are looking for here, but there were quite a few unexpected search queries.
A disturbing number of people are searching for sex, or sex based searches. I ...
New Google Updates (Analytics, Reader, Adsense, and Checkout)
I'm sure I remember reading something like this at the start of the year (I'm making the quote up).
We (Google) are now going to stop releasing stacks of new stuff, and instead focus on improving what we have
It's not a genuine quote but over the last few weeks Google have unveiled a bunch of new features for their various pieces of software so I thought I would mention a few of my favorites.

A lesson learned
Today, during my lunch break at work, I thought I would tweak a few things on the site. I edited the style sheets from the editor, hit save and my entire design got destroyed. Somehow I had managed to replace my main site styles with my print stylesheet (do a print preview and you will see how it looks).
The silly thing is I noticed the styles weren't identical when I was editing them, but I didn't think to check. If ...
Slow posting on Binary Moon – I now have a Wii
Posting here is going to slow down for the next week or two. I have finally managed to get hold of a Nintendo Wii (only 6 months after launch) and will be playing that for the next week or two. I wish to complete the new Legend of Zelda game - the Twighlight Princess, which I have been waiting for for the last few years.
I actually have a few things to talk about as well. I saw the ...
The Virginia Tech tragedy and violent video games
The recent shooting at Virginia Tech has affected, and shocked, many people and it's a terrible tragedy that something so awful could happen. My thoughts go out to all those involved and I hope they can get back to some semblance of normality as soon as possible.
Video GamesAs tragic as this event was video games are yet again being blamed for the issue. Within hours of the incident Jack Thompson had managed to get onto the television, ...
Firefox Extensions I can’t live without
I posted the applications I install when I get a new computer the other day, and it got some interesting comments so I thought I would post the Firefox extensions I use as well. Many blogs have this type of list but I've never felt the need to write one before. I'm hoping that the comments will help me find other useful extensions.
A lot of the extensions I use have become second nature now and if I install Firefox on ...
