Waterstones (the UK bookstore) recently ran a promotion called “What’s your story” where they got people to submit a postcard with a short story on it, and they will be turning the best into a limited edition book.
In total they had 4522 entries, and some of those were from celebs - including JK Rowling.
The postcard book is going to be made in a limited run but they have posted the celebrity cards on the What’s your story website so you can have a read now.
JK’s story claims to be - “From the prequel I [JK Rowling] am NOT working on”, and is a snippet of action from a young James and Sirius.
To read JK’s “prequel” you should go to the What’s your story website, then press authors -> JK Rowling (unfortunately it’s made in flash so I can’t send you directly there).

I found out about Dr Horribles Sing Along blog a couple of days ago, and today I watched the first two episodes. They’re absolutely bloody fantastic so watch them while you can.
The show is a musical (as in song and dance) tale of a horrible doctor who is having woman troubles.
The shows are free streaming mini movies and, more importantly, the brain child of Joss Whedon (Buffy and Firefly being his most famous creations).
Dr Horrible stars Nathan Fillion, who played the ultimate bad guy in Buffy (a character I thought was a bit crap) and then became Captain Mal Reynolds in Firefly (a character I thought was awesome).
I don’t want to say too much as each episode is only 13/14 minutes. All I really want to say is that the first two episodes are out, the third is coming on Saturday - and the whole lot are being taken …
A fantastic house designed by an incredibly creative person. It all started because a rich bloke, Steven B. Klinsky, wanted his house redesigned and asked an architect, Eric Clough, to embed a poem in his childrens bedroom. A year goes by and suddenly a new house has been made, with a complex series of puzzles waiting for the occupants to unlock the secrets within.
But some of that furniture and some of those walls conceal secrets — messages, games and treasures — that make up a Rube Goldberg maze of systems and contraptions conceived by a young architectural designer named Eric Clough, whose ideas about space and domestic living derive more from Buckminster Fuller than Peter Marino.
The apartment even comes with its own book, part of which is a fictional narrative that recalls “The Da Vinci Code” (without the funky religion or buckets of blood)

Big Buck Bunny tells the story of a giant rabbit with a heart bigger than himself. When one sunny day three rodents rudely harass him, something snaps… and the rabbit ain’t no bunny anymore! In the typical cartoon tradition he prepares the nasty rodents a comical revenge.
Big Buck Bunny is an animation, created in Blender - an open source 3d art program. I tried Blender many moons ago and it was painful to use. I suspect that’s because I was warped by my excessive user of 3d Studio Max. However the unintuitive interface doesn’t seem to have slowed down the amazing artists who created Big Buck Bunny.
The animation was commissioned by the Blender Foundation and has been licensed under the Creative Commons Attribution 3.0 license - which means you can do whatever you like with the video, as long as the credits are left intact.
The animation is fantastic, even …
An amusing & educational look at the history of sex in video games. Sex has been around in games for almost as long as game have existed. Sure, there’s lot’s of controversy now, but really - is it needed? There’s so much more violence than sex in games, and sex is required for the survival of the human race whereas violence… isn’t.
Anyway the video is by Daniel Floyd who’s a student (not a professor) at Savannah College of Art and Design and he made this for his coursework.
Found a video of Wall-E on Electroplankton and am loving it. This has to be the best marketing campaign ever.
Oh - and case you’ve missed it. Wall-E is the latest, soon to be hit, movie from the ridiculously clever folks at Pixar.
