An amusing & educational look at the history of sex in video games. Sex has been around in games for almost as long as game have existed. Sure, there’s lot’s of controversy now, but really - is it needed? There’s so much more violence than sex in games, and sex is required for the survival of the human race whereas violence… isn’t.
Anyway the video is by Daniel Floyd who’s a student (not a professor) at Savannah College of Art and Design and he made this for his coursework.
I have now updated my game Roll so that it makes use of the new highscores system from Mochiads.
The system is very easy to use and I’d recommend it for anyone who wants a quick and easy highscore system for their flash games (does anybody who reads my blog make flash games?)
I’m not convinced it’s perfect just yet, although any faults will be my end, and not with the Mochiads leaderboard service.
If anyone can score more than 12000 I will be mighty impressed
I have just got back from Disneyland in Anaheim (I’ll write a post about my trip when I get the photos sorted out) - and one of the first things I found in my overflowing feedreader when I returned was this post on Wired about an interactive Disneyland map for the Nintendo DS that Disney are beta testing.
Thankfully I have a pretty good sense of direction so after a couple of hours in the park I knew where I was going for most things anyway but it’s still very cool, and I wish I’d been able to try it out - if only I’d known!
The People, a UK newspaper, are reporting that the Queen has really gotten into playing with Prince Williams Wii (no jokes please, this is serious news).
A Palace source told The People: “When she saw William playing a game after lunch at Sandringham she thought the Nintendo looked tremendous fun and begged to join in.
“She played a simple ten-pin bowling game and by all accounts was a natural.
“It was hilarious. William was in fits of laughter. He was enormously impressed at having such a cool gran.
I think this is great for a number of reasons. Firstly, it makes the Queen look cool. Secondly, it will make even more old people buy Wiis (old people love the Queen). Thirdly, it boosts both the image of Nintendo and of video games in general - afterall, if the Queen likes video games, they must be good right?
You can’t argue with the Queen!
Steven Poole, a journalist from the UK, is someones whos insight into games has always intrigued me. I used to be a regular reader of Edge magazine, a UK gaming journal that catered for the more mature gamer. Edge tended to steer away from the childish stereotypes and over the top-ness of many gaming magazines, instead they tended to have more insightful features and reviews, never fearing to be honest - in a critical way. Occasionally they were rather too opinionated but it was a good read and one of my favourite parts was Steven Pooles column, one page a month dedicated to his thoughts.
Trigger Happy, originally published in 2000 with the subtitle “The Inner Life of Videogames”, is a book about the aesthetics of videogames: what they share with other artforms, and the ways in which they are unique. I also presented a BBC TV documentary entitled Trigger …
This is equal parts cute, cool, and awesome.
The latest game from Valve, Portal, involves a clever device that let’s you create portals to travel from one place to another.
This awesome papercraft replicates the wonderful game. I love the simplicity (something I am a big fan of in general), the colours, the design - the lot.
Unlike most papercraft it’s even something I could do myself.
Check out the original Portal, papercraft post on Blogspot.
