My Starwars loving side has got plenty to be happy about at the moment - the Clone Wars 3d cartoons are on their way!
I absolutely adored the 2d versions (in particular the superior 2nd series) and this trailer looks like it will ignite my passion for Starwars once more… if it hasn’t already.
According to the BBC the animated Clone Wars will kick off with a movie length version later this year, and then continue with a tv series. This, for me at least, is totally unexpected and incredibly welcome.
Since I’m on the subject, you should probably check out these mini Starwars Lego models. They are almost as cool as the Clone Wars film and tv series (some may even arguer that they’re cooler!).
There have been a couple of very cool physics toys released recently and since they’re fun to play with and free (and I like this sort of thing) I thought I’d give them a mention.
Phun with Physics
The first was a couple of weeks ago and is called Phun with Physics. It’s a wonderful free toy where you can build your own contraptions from the physics object and then release them into the world to interact with each other. You should watch all of the video as it starts off fairly basic and ends up showing some pretty advanced stuff. All the demos in the video are available in the free download too.
OECake from Prometech Software, Inc.
This one doesn’t have such a catchy title, but OECake is just as clever. The cool thing about OECake is the way the objects are generated. Rather than using primitive shapes you can …
Speed Racer is a cartoon from my childhood that I have distant memories of. My memories of the show are that it was one of the best toons ever.
It’s now been turned into a feature film by the Wachowskis. I love the Matrix, V for Vendetta, and Bound and based solely upon this trailer, I think I’ll love Speed Racer too. The trailer captures the super frenetic pace of the cartoon perfectly - it really is a cartoon brought to life.
I seem to remember the Wachowskis saying something like “we want to do with films things you can’t do in real life” - and they’ve certainly managed that with this.
A bit of something different for the weekend - robots beating each other up. The future is now!
Spoilers…
I love that the tiny robot beats the big one - bigger isn’t always better
The moves they pull off are pretty cool too. I just hope they don’t start giving these things pointy weapons and artificial intelligence, else it’ll be the start of the Terminator movies.

Q. What do you get if you cross a Nintendo Wii, with an LED array?
A. A scene from Minority Report… in your own home.
There’s not much to write about here - it’s all explained in the video below.
I would love to have something like this on the Wii for real. I’m surprised they managed to get two points, multi input, working as well. I’d have thought that needed changes to the Wii’s hardware to work.
Found on Tranism.
This is a major geek out but it combines science and video games. I have no idea how they did this buy I am incredibly impressed.
Thanks to Tranism from Electroplankton for the heads up.
