I went to see 300 at the Imax cinema in London recently and it is one of the best films I have seen in a long time. I like powerful films and, whilst the story was a little thin, this film was VERY powerful.
Nobody goes to see a film like 300 for the story, but what there was of it was done more than well enough. For those who aren’t aware (and I’m late to the party so you must have read about it elsewhere) 300 covers the battle of Thermapolae in which 300 Spartans stood again the millions of the Persian army.
This film is pure popcorn fantasy - it’s wonderful to look at and, like Sin City before it, follows it’s source material, a comic book by Frank Miller, very closely. Also like Sin City the movie was filmed largely on Blue Screen with the …
Urban Fonts is a free font download site and they recently tasked me with writing a (paid) review for them.
When it comes to fonts I already have a favourite website which I normally use for my own font finding needs . It has everything I need, vast amounts of free fonts to download, the ability to preview fonts, including changing the font preview text. Vast numbers of categories and a decent search engine to speed things up. I didn’t think anything would replace it… now I’m not so sure.
Urban Fonts has everything my favourite site has, along with a bunch of other stuff. Urban Fonts includes tags, for sorting the fonts, has a blog with articles about fonts and typography (articles that are actually useful/ interesting).
In terms of looking for fonts everything you need is there. The previews of the fonts are great - if you mouse …
I got an email yesterday from review me telling me a review had been bought from a Poker site. At first I was disappointed as I don’t like advertising gambling, but once I had read the message and checked out the site I became happier. They were actually a poker table and accessories retailer wanting comments on their site design/ reviews of their products. Unless they send me a poker table I think I will have to stick to comments on the design of the site… which is something I quite enjoy doing.
So here we go - one review for the design of Cardroom Supply
First Impressions
The first thing I noticed when I visited is that currently the site is fairly generic looking. Maybe this is a good thing but I would be inclined to stylise things more giving a poker theme to proceedings. In my opinion a website should …
Since there were no objections I am going to give the whole reviewing thing a go. This is my first ReviewMe review that isn’t about ReviewMe (yes… it’s a paid review).
The site in question is w3 tableless. The first sentence on their website explains the purpose of the site but to save some time here it is again:
Validate your tableless website, link to us and you are automatically registered in our network of tableless designed sites.
The first thing I noticed was the rotating cube of screenshots. It seems to be a way to look at previously submitted tableless sites. Personally I would have gone for a simple text list, but at least it’s in Flash and not a Java Applett. The second thing I noticed was the design. It’s not particularly attractive, which seems strange for a site which is essentially a website showcase, but that too …
ReviewMe is a new site from the people who created Text Links Ads (I’ll be posting about them soon as well).
To coincide with the launch ReviewMe are giving away $25000 worth of reviews for their own site. I will be earning $50 simply by writing this post.
There are a couple of restrictions to the reviewing.
- Minimum of 200 words - not really a problem if you’re going to write something worthwhile
- You have to declare the post is a review - this post is a review
I’m not sure how I am supposed to write a review of their service considering I have only been using it for half an hour but so far it seems pretty good.
Registration is painless and adding a new site is quick and easy. You get given a ranking and a price per review (calculated from Technorati and Alexa). Each review I write costs the company …
