New Video Games

I enjoy both playing, and developing video games. Recently I have bought a number of new games but not been able to play them for one reason or another.

Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory

I bought Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory about three weeks ago. I hurried home after buying it to have a play and what did I find? None of my memory cards were big enough to save the game. I have a GameCube and a standard 4 meg memory card wasn’t big enough to save a game play. This meant I had to wait until I bought a larger card so that I could play the game properly. I now have a 128 meg card, which had better be big enough to save everything. However the game still hasn’t been played. Something else got in the way…

Ico

Ico has been on my list of games to play for years. It looks absolutely gorgeous and was supposed to play like a dream, but not having a PlayStation 2 I haven’t been able to find out for myself. The game was only on sale for a short time in the UK and not owning a PlayStation 2 meant I kept putting off buying it.

Recently my brother bought one of the new slim Playstations and my parents have started using Ebay. These two things prompted me to break open the wallet and bid for Ico on Ebay.co.uk. It took me three tries and eventually, last Friday, I managed to win, paid up straight away, and less than 24 hours later received the game (Good Ebayer A++).

I was 3 years late but it was well worth the wait!

Completing the game didn’t take long, just under 6 and a half hours. I knew the game was short and, unlike a lot of games, I enjoyed ALL of those hours, rather than having 5 minutes of good bits interspersed with 55 minutes of rather crappy monotonous bits.

Now I’m awaiting Shadow of the Colossus which is the next game by the team that created Ico. I will definitely get in there early with this one.

What Else?

I had already bought 5 PlayStation 2 games knowing I would buy a console eventually, and Ico was actually in an auction with another game, so I now have seven PlayStation 2 games and no console. I also want to complete Splinter Cell, and when I bought that got The Legend of Zelda: Four Swords, so have that to play through.

So, this weekend, I think there will be some Splinter Cell action. I hope I enjoy that as much as I enjoyed Ico.

Let me know what you think on Mastodon, or BlueSky (or Twitter X if you must).
