Tomorrow (the 14th of April) Another World is going to be re-released on his website AnotherWorld.fr. I don’t speak much French so don’t really understand what is going on. Essentially the game has been updated for a windows based computer, with new graphics (the graphics in the old version were truly amazing, especially considering the technical limitations of the time).
In some ways this interests me, as I’ve only ever played Another World on an emulator, but in other ways I’m rather underwhelmed. I would have thought most of the charm of the (original) game lies in the atmosphere it created using the technology of the time, the fact it’s been updated in such a limited way, knowing my pc is capable of so much more, leaves me feeling a little hollow. No doubt I will check it out anyway.
You can read some more info – and see a screenshot – on the idle thumbs forum.
An Amiga classic worthy of another shot – think ICO, minimalist, well-animated goodness with an atmosphere so alien it will make your toes curl.
As soon as I heard this I waited in anticipation for it’s release. The minute (okay, a few hours) after it was released I quickly bought it and I’m stuck.
Having only played like 5 minutes of the game when it was known as “Out of this World” for the SNES, I never realized just how cool this game really is. At the moment I’m stuck on the platform elevator.
Regardless, I think it’s awesome Eric re-released this and with better visuals.
