Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild

The Zelda series has been with me for a long time. I first played it on the original gameboy with The Legend of Zelda: Links Awakening. The sense of adventure and exploration in that game is fantastic. I never played the SNES version (at least not on a SNES) but the next game I played was Ocarina of Time. It was this game that really got me turned on to the series – and since then I have played every major Zelda release.

So the recent news about Breath of the Wild was really interesting to me. Thankfully – it looks fantastic. It appears that the Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild is going right back to basics – taking a lot of inspiration from the very first Zelda game on the NES, and that’s a good thing. Having a huge world that you can traverse in any order you like – with little in the way of tutorials and hand holding – it’s very much an exploration game.

As an artist, I love the visual style as well. I like the Wind Wakers cartoon aesthetic, but this slightly more grown up style is lovely. It has helped to create a world I am looking forward to visiting. I’m planning to get this on the Nintendo NX when it’s released next year. It’s gonna be epic! 🙂

Let me know what you think on Mastodon, or BlueSky (or Twitter X if you must).
