Schedule content with Automatic Post Scheduler

Posting regular content is essential when you’re trying to build a successful blog or website – but it’s something I struggle with. I think I’ve found a solution that works for me though.

  • Regular content is great for Google (and other search engines) as it creates more pages to index and more topics to list you under.
  • Regular content is great for your users as it encourages them to return more frequently.

However – it can be hard to get into the blogging zone to a schedule. Personally I find that I get in a blogging mood where I can write 4 or 5 posts in one go, and then I won’t be in the mood for a couple of weeks. So the answer is to schedule them as I write them.

This might sound relatively straight-forward, but I find it can be quite complex – keeping track of what is posted when and then making sure there’s a big enough gap between posts. I like to simplify my life as much as possible. Every decision I can remove means less stress and more time for other things.

Of course, writing that out now, it sounds a little strange – I’m probably only saving a few minutes per post. However I believe that literally anything I can do that removes decisions makes me happier. It allows me to spend more time and brain power thinking about things that actually matter to me.

So I use a plugin called ‘Automatic Post Scheduler‘ to take care of the scheduling for me.

Automatic Post Scheduler is a plugin that schedules your posts to be published automatically on a predefined time period. You define a maximum and minimum duration, and then each time you write something new the plugin calculates a new time and makes sure that the gap between posts is at least that big. If a post hasn’t been published in a while then it will be published instantly – otherwise there will be a gap.

If you want to post something out of schedule, then there’s the option to post immediately as well – perfect for timely news or important announcements.

I have been using the plugin on Binary Moon for years and it’s consistently helped me. I’ve recently got back into blogging regularly here and because of the Automatic Post Scheduler I have a backlog of posts lined up.

Let me know what you think on Mastodon, or BlueSky (or Twitter X if you must).
