Ben is a lifelong Nintendo fan who likes to build websites, and make video games. He buys way too much Lego.
My first theme, Regulus, was released on WordPress.com as one of the first themes there. It’s because of Regulus that I started really getting into WordPress themes, so it’s great to have another theme of mine on the site.
One of the most common questions we’ve had since launching Pro Theme Design is if our themes work on WordPress.com. Previously the answer was ‘unfortunately not’, but now we can say – ‘yes, check out Mimbo Pro‘
This is something I have wanted to do for ages – so it’s with a lot of thanks to the team at WordPress.com (Lance, and Ian in particular) that we now have Mimbo Pro available as a premium theme on WordPress.com.
The process took a while. First Darren and I rebuilt the theme – releasing Mimbo Pro 3.0 in the process. We then went through a review process with WordPress.com themselves. They gave us loads of awesome feedback to improve the theme further, and this in turn has been added into Mimbo Pro for our Pro Theme Design customers to make use of.
It’s through doing things like this that I see how much I have yet to learn about WordPress theme development. I have had quite a few people use my themes, but having a product the size of WordPress.com must give an awesome sense of scale – and will quickly show you where the pain points are – and point out the most common problems.
Now that I am rebuilding Elemental, I am going to use a lot of what I have learnt from this process, and build in support for WordPress.com from the start. Hopefully that will let me get a second theme onto the site.
